my hair, my beautiful hair!

I am very picky about my hair. I haven’t been to a “chain” hair-cutting place in probably 10 years. It was sometime around when we lived in Tucson, I don’t remember if it was there or in Phoenix, but the lady BUTCHERED Amy’s hair. It was awful. I am sure I laughed at the time. She cried. My mom tried to fix it. It didn’t work. Shortly thereafter, we started going to Kim. I LOVE Kim. She has seen me through many bad hair choices, steered my away from many bad hair choices, and even performed the 8 hour perm. It took 4 hours just to roll my hair, then another 4 to set and cut. She has colored my hair more times than my sisters and mother combined. She was the one that lovingly chopped all of my hair off my senior year, after tearfully trying to talk me out of it. (I donated 2 chunks of hair, one at 14” and one at 12” to Locks of Love.) She has since cut off another 10” to donate. When I moved to Missouri, I quit cutting my hair, and every time I was in Phoenix, I had to go see her and have her cut it for me. (Sometimes I would go during Thanksgiving and Christmas, just because I could.) Basically, I have been spoiled.
When we moved to Salt Lake, I decided that I should grow up and find my own hair stylist. It took me about a year, but finally Taunya pointed me to Debbie. She is also pretty good. She helped me find a style that I really like and that suits me well. But, she is over by my old job, and I so rarely go that way anymore, it became ridiculous to try to set anything up. So I decided last night I would go to Fantastic Sam’s. Shannon went and she said they did ok. I can’t say I totally regret it, because finally after about an hour of my own cutting and fixing, it is decent. But I should have just sucked it up and gone to see Debbie, WAY across town (ok, 25 minutes away, but it seems like forever.) I showed the lady at Fantastic Sam’s the picture. It had the cut I wanted, I just needed it a little bit shorter than in the picture. She didn’t get that. She was terrified of cutting the front for some reason. She just kept cutting the back, so the back of my hair is really short but looks pretty good, but the front is really blocky because she wouldn’t cut it! And it doesn’t really blend very well. I told her to just use the razor all over, but she kept going back to the scissors. Oh well, I have learned my lesson for another 10 years, and will keep going to Debbie. And of course, I am way more critical of it than anyone else. At least every one who has noticed has said it’s cute.

It really is cute. I have just decided it's not worth the anxiety of going to fantastic sams and not knowing who you will get to cut your hair and not knowing if they have any clue how to do a good job. Anyway, I think I will give Ethelynn a shot before I go back to Debbie (unless she refuses to do color). I'll let you know how the experience goes. :)

Picture, we want a picture! I, too, have had terrible luck with chains though I will say that Regis at the mall has usually done fine.

Amy says Fantastic Sam's is better for cutting men's hair than women's, but they still aren't that great because they only know 1 or 2 cuts. (She also says "thanks" for bringing up those painful memories of her butcher-cut way back when.)

Chains are usually bad, unless it's Toni & Guy or Regis inside the mall. I'm sorry she didn't do a good job. And I disagree as to the amount of times Kim has colored your hair being more than mine - I've gone every 3 months for the last 5 years or so. Picture please?

I meant that Kim colored my hair more than you guys colored my hair. I gave up hair color about 5 years ago and haven't gone back.
