Stuff

I enjoyed the first fruits of my garden last night. Ok, it was a veggie, but whatever. My swiss chard has started taking over, so I decided I should trim some of it back and eat it (wouldn’t want to waste it). It was maybe half the size you would find in the grocery store, but really really good. I sautéed some chicken and the chard, added a little milk, parmesan cheese, and fontina cheese, and tossed it all with some angel hair pasta. It was amazingly good. It was a little on the salty side. I over-salted the chicken and chard, which is not like me. I don’t know what got into me. And the chicken and chard were a touch overdone, but overall, very tasty. I am actually planning on making it again for Alann next week. The chard didn’t have much flavor on its own, but played nicely with the other flavors.
In other garden news: The leaves on my broccoli are probably a foot to 18” long from stem to the tip of the leaf. They are HUGE! I think they are even bigger than they were last year. And the corn is starting to pop up. No sign of the pumpkins, which worries me a touch. Maybe Saturday I will go out and poke around if they haven’t sprouted. The beans and peas are all coming along nicely. The garlic should be close to harvesting.
On a rather ironic note, I just got a call. It was a “recorded message about our live answering service”. If it’s a live answering service, why aren’t there live people calling?
And in general, my left shoulder hurts. I don’t really know why. It just does.

Broccoli leaves - yum! They can be cooked up like greens, too (a bit on the spicy/tangy side, but good nonetheless). As for the shoulder - maybe you're just dehydrated a bit? Or maybe strained from all that yard work? :-) Love to you both!

Or maybe it has something to do with the fishing. What exactly is swiss chard anyway?

Swiss Chard is a dark green leafy lettuce-type veggie. It is the bunch of leaves at the grocery store that has red or yellow stems sometimes (they also come in green and I believe purple). It's a lot like kale or really big romaine lettuce.

You're so funny. Sounds like a yummy first garden harvest meal. Bummer about your shoulder. I hope it feels better soon.
